Welcome to Blackwood Design, a business that was created following the 2011 earthquakes in Christchurch New Zealand when I was faced with repairing our quake-damaged house. Up until this event, I worked as a music specialist for 23 years. Our girls needed new interiors for their bedrooms and I couldn't find anything that worked for them so I embarked on designing their wallpaper and fabrics myself.  Very ambitious but I just loved the freedom of drawing and painting without the rules and restrictions of my traditional music education.
I have never looked back, teaching myself to use photoshop, procreate and discovering Spoonflower and digitally printed fabrics!
Blackwood Design is a family run business, and we also have pet-friendly cottages on our rural 10 acres property in Tai Tapu, New Zealand. My husband is a large animal veterinary so we have always lived amongst our menagerie of chickens, ducks, rats, mice, guineas pigs, chinchillas, goats, sheep, pigs, alpacas, dogs, cats, wild birds and our very special deceased red highland cow called Ernest. Our menagerie has decreased and at present, we are prioritising fostering large animals for the S.P.C.A
Animals continue to be my greatest passion and inspiration for Blackwood Design.
